On Hold – Prins de Vos
About the series
Years of waiting for an initial consultation. That’s the challenging reality many face when applying to a gender clinic. This prolonged period, during which individuals often feel their lives are put “on hold,” is a genuine agony for non-binary and trans people seeking (medical) help.
The emotional toll of waiting can be immense, leading to feelings of frustration, isolation, and despair. For many, the hope of receiving necessary care and support is often overshadowed by the uncertainty of when, or if, that help will ever come.
Prins: “With my project On Hold, I aim to create a realistic picture of those who are currently on waiting lists, capturing a diverse range of experiences from individuals of all ages. By sharing their faces, I hope to shed light on the urgent need for timely and accessible healthcare for the transgender and non-binary community.
My goal is to amplify their voices, highlight the systemic issues within the healthcare system, and foster a greater understanding of the impact these waiting periods have on the lives of those affected. Through this project, I hope to spark conversation and advocate for change, ultimately supporting a more inclusive and compassionate approach to gender-affirming care.”
